Simple Remote Work Style

Welcome to Non's Tokyo Simple Lifestyle !

Due to COVID 19, all staff in the company were to work from home since early 2020.
However, in my small apartment space, I do not have any table or desk..  The only seating I have is this one-seater sofa.  Other than this, the only sitting place is either on the bed or floor...

I have thought of purchasing a small desk or table and a chair, however, I did not want to increase stuff in my apartment.  So, I decided to try to do my PC work on this sofa.  Fortunately, this has a small mobile table and a cupholder.  I usually use this when I take a meal and do some writing.

At first, I was a little worried as it may be hard for my lower back to sit for long time 5 days a week.  However, I found it pretty comfortable!   The seat pad is soft and does not hurt my hip and I can adjust my posture by using cushions.

(This sofa is my very favorite and I got this with special price through my workplace.  This was a showroom furniture, but was stored in the storage for a long time.  They decided to abandons many of their stock to decrease their monthly warehouse cost and my sofa is one of them.  It is made in Canada and pretty big.)

However, I had one problem.  The table was too small and has no space for a mouse.  But, one day, my co-worker said "I do not use any mouse".  I thought "oh, that should be the way for me, too" and stopped using a mouse from the next day.
FYI, this co-worker is lying down on a "Yogibo (bean bag chair from the US)" comfortably while doing her PC work..

For the first few days, I felt a little irritated to do PC work without a mouse, however, I started feeling OK after I increased the knowledge of keyboard shortcut function.  In fact, the PC work is faster with using keyboard shortcut function.
It has been more than one year since I stop using a month.  I now feel nostalgic when seeing a mouse.  I feel "yeah, once upon the time..."

Once the job finishes for the day, I close my rap top and put away.  Then the room becomes as it was, without any atmosphere of work place.  I feel happy not to buy any desk or chair!

I, in fact, have not connected to internet at home before starting this remote work.  My smart phone (and company PC) was enough for internet and I can also use free Wifi at cafes and public library that is close to my apartment and I used them when I want to do my PC work.

However, this is impossible to do work at home.  So, I have searched internet options and got internet access at home.

I have chosen WiMax, which is Wifi only.  All of my team mates uses wired connection at home, however, WiMax seems a little faster for speed, seeing the reaction of them during chat and meetings.  WiMax was sometimes instable during the first few months (probably too many started doing remote work at that time and workload got too high), however, it now got stable after that.  I do not have any problem now and feel comfortable with it.

Now, I can do my work anywhere only if I have my rap top and a small portable router.  (However, it may not be possible if in the country sides that the WiMax company does not cover.)  I can do my work at my parents' home, which does not have internet access.

Now, I do not have to be at a certain place, feeling more freedom.  It is really like "from earth age to wind age in 2021"!
And, having internet access also gave me greater information access, that has changed my way of thinking and life style.

[Book] British Style - Happy life with monthly income of JPY200,000 (イギリス式 月収20万円で愉しく暮らす)

Welcome to Nomi's Tokyo Simple Lifestyle♪

I came across the book [Happy life with monthly income of JPY200,000 イギリス式月収20万円で愉しく暮らす] at a public library.  *JPY200,000=USD1800 (as of Sept. 2021)

<Book>
This book was about the lifestyle and general thinking of British people.  Those were, to my surprise, very similar to my own (who has a tendency of minimalism), and thus were very exiting and fun to read!

Own only necessary things; used but good quality clothing rather than new ones; shopping at charity shops; keep using old jackets with patches; inexpensive and simple skin care; health care without doctors or medicine; consumable for presents (which does not stay long); etc.  I love those ideas!

I always feel that homes in the US and EU are so nice with limited items, making the room look spacious.  They seem so different from homes created by my parents generation in Japan where there are so many things in the rooms.

I always enjoy browsing around charity shops when visiting England.  I feel  exiting when I find old and nice items.  And, of course, almost everything is affordable price!
